Chester County Arctic Explorers

About the Exhibit:

What do huge wooden ships, jagged icebergs, fierce polar bears, and the native Inuit of Greenland have to do with Chester County, Pennsylvania?  Inspired by the donation of explorer Samuel Entrikin's steamer trunk to the museum, our historians uncovered previously unknown stories of Arctic explorers from our area.  For the first time in 2011, objects, documents, and books were displayed together at the Chester County Historical Society to reveal this fascinating history - the Chilling Reality of four Chester County Arctic explorers: Isaac Israel Hayes, Amos Bonsall, Samuel Entrikin, and Harry Whitney.
